Culminate a Genre Study with a Writing Prompt

After an intermediate or secondary teacher spends a couple weeks teaching a particular type of writing (compare-contrast, persuasive, narrative, how-to, expository, etc.), then the study typically concludes with a final draft of a written piece.
Although this is typical, you might consider another approach. What about assessing whether your students can write within that particular genre within a single-draft, one-sitting, no-choice writing prompt? Like test-writing prompts, see if your students can "bring it all together."
