What’s one way to make sure students know when you love their word choice? Stroke those words with a purple highlighter!

Purple highlighters aren’t that easy to find. That’s why I chose that color to use for this assessment piece. And that’s just what this is—assessment—a way to evaluate and affirm what students are doing well in their writing. As we recognize the positives, it’s amazing how they multiply. Other students notice the purple highlighting and strive to improve their word choice as well.
