Teacher-Parent Connection for Reading Support
Did you know, according to the 2009 NAEP Report, that only 33 percent of 4th grade students read at or above grade level? That means almost 70% can't! Research shows that if children are able to read at grade level by 3rd grade, their chances for academic success are greatly increased. Check out The Reading Seed, Children’s Literacy Program.
With that in mind, we created the Reading Parent Pack, a resource full of short reading activities parents can do at home with their children. Based on K-5 reading standards, parents can reinforce exactly what their child needs for school success. Without the at-home connection, struggling readers cannot receive the amount of support necessary to boost their reading level. Teachers pick the skill-appropriate activities to send home with students. The Reading Parent Pack includes activities for phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. All of the activities include a place for parents to note participation, so teachers can know what was accomplished.
Parents often want to help with their children’s reading but don’t know where to begin. This publication offers skill-based activities for at-home learning. Each page focuses on a specific skill and provides a practice opportunity to support learning.
