These are an excellent addition to students’ expository writing. Whenever they use a specific term or vocabulary word, they can insert an explanation or synonym. This not only adds variety to the sentence types, but it also demonstrates a sense of audience. The student is subliminally saying to the reader…You may not be as smart as I am and know all the big words I’m using, so let me define them for you.
