Enjoy Pi (Poems) Any Time

PI Poem Mentor Text Example

On March 14 (or 3-14), many teachers celebrate Pi Day (3.14...). But this isn't just a day for math teachers.

After visiting Corbett Harrison's Always Write site, Melanie Beaver, 7th grade ELA teacher at West Vigo Middle School (Terre Haute, IN) invited her students to write pi poems based on their current reading (The Giver by Lois Lowry).

Students summarized the text, generating details per line. Each line for the poem has a particular number of words in it, and that number corresponds with each digit of pi (3.14159...). Thanks for sharing, Melanie!
