Explain writing topics with the Bright Ideas Light Bulb
August 19, 2013
When teaching the trait of ideas, it makes sense that your first lessons will be centered on choosing writing topics, as all the other traits are dependent on the topic.
Hold the Smekens original light bulb over your head when teaching students about topic ideas and describe the light bulb that pops over the head of an animated character/cartoon when he has an idea. Compare this to how writers also have ideas (or topics) to write about.
Using a picture or icon of a light bulb as a visual, but there is a strong, memory-sticking power for students who see this squeezable trigger held above your head.
