Helping educators unlock their potential
Driven by a desire to help and encourage other educators, Didi loves to share the Smekens strategies that made such a transformative impact in her own classroom. She fine-tuned the execution of these strategies in her daily writer’s workshop and while leading dynamic whole-class mini-lessons rooted in the gradual release of responsibility.
She has a remarkable talent for “reading the room,” intuitively understanding the specific needs and learning styles of both students and teachers. This allows her to tailor her approach, empowering others to not only grasp these strategies but also implement them with confidence and excitement.
Didi is passionate about helping teachers recognize their existing strengths in literacy instruction while offering practical suggestions for continued growth. With her expertise and infectious enthusiasm, she inspires educators to unlock their full potential and create a thriving learning environment for all.
In her role as a literacy consultant with Smekens Education, Didi offers professional development for teachers through on-site school visits, virtual training, and virtual coaching.
She and her husband, Wes, live in Plainfield, IN but are always on the lookout to hitch up the camper to enjoy time away with their three young adult girls.
