During this free, 90-minute virtual workshop, author and educator Kristina Smekens identified the six skills every reader needs in order to comprehend informational text. But beyond simply naming the proficiencies, Kristina also shared practical, ready-to-use strategies so you can begin teaching these crucial skills right away.

Whether you work with early learners, strugglers, or career-ready high achievers, the skills required for comprehending nonfiction text are universal. These same skills apply to simple or complex text read across all grade levels.

Continuing Education Credit

Educators will receive a completion certificate for 90 minutes of continuing education after attending the live virtual session or viewing the recording.

Illinois educators can earn state-approved PD credit from the IL ASCD for attending live or viewing the recording by May 15, 2023.
