Play with prepositions

Most prepositions tell the reader where something is positioned. Adding prepositional phrases to sentences provides additional information for the reader and helps to add to the writing.
Supersize sentences with prepositions. Demonstrate with the Giant Magic Straw.
Have students revise their writing to add prepositional phrases using Spider Legs.
Reveal Emily Dunbar’s “Preposition Song” about the position of the kids and the box.
“Prepositional Phrase Scavenger Hunt” allows students to practice generating prepositions. (TIP: Use a busy scene like these images from archived Highlights magazines. Download four scenes to print out and use in class. Or, download each image as a JPEG. To access JPEG, open image link(s) below, right click on graphic, and “Save image as…”).

I love it! I think my ESL students will love this activity for applying the prepositions! I appreciate it so much for this great idea that you share with us.
Mariel,
So glad you can use this strategy with your ESL students! It is a fun way to learn more about prepositions.
